DETECTION OF SUBSURFACE CONTAMINATION
DISSOLVED PHASE

     COLLECTION

- collection from direct push geoprobe hole
- collection from monitor well

  ANALYSES

SCREENING ANALYSES

- Headspace
- Fluorescence

EPA ANALYSES

- BTEX
- TPH
- MTBE

INTERPRETATION

  KEY CONCEPTS

- dissolved phase contamination in ground water only contains approximately 5% of the total mass of a petroleum fuel hydrocarbon spill
- the concentrations of dissolved phase contamination will vary over time depending on water levels in the aquifer
- some screening analyses are more sensitive than EPA analyses
- decreases in dissolved phase concentrations are not solely attributable to natural attenuation in the aquifer
